The University of Murcia renovates it annual collaboration with the Women for Africa Foundation through CMN
17 Dec 2024The University of Murcia have signed through the Campus Mare Nostrum Office a collaboration agreement with Women for Africa Foundation (WxAF) to promote the training of African women through the Programme Learn África, through the modality of research stay for a young woman researcher, either in predoctoral training stage or in the beginning of its research career (less than 5 years of the thesis reading).
In previous editions, the University of Murcia has been offering a scholarship for a research stay of 6 months in one of the UMU research groups. During this period, the University of Murcia ensures an economic aid that will cover the travel expenses, health insurance, as well as the accommodation and maintenance for an aggregate amount of 6000 euros, being English the working language.
The process selection starts with the publication of the call for applications and posts both in the UMU and other universities and Spanish research centres by the Women for Africa Foundation in MARCH/April every year. Then, a preselection of the candidates is taken out. Finally, the candidate selection will be conducted by the research group of each institution.
The general requirements to participate are the following ones:
- Being woman
- Being African
- Have an academic degree in an African university
In the case of the UMU, the characteristics of the posts and the requirements to take advantage of the scholarship of a predoctoral or post-doctoral stage are the following:
- Predoctoral or postdoctoral stage in the Group Knowledge Modelling, processing, and management technologies.
- Estancia predoctoral o post-doctoral en Grupo knowledge Modelling, processing, and management technologies.
- Modality: Face-to-face
- Duration: 6 months
- Start date/end of the stage: 1st October 2024/30th March 2025
- Language of instruction: English (B2)
Academic requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and Master of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.
- Predoctoral PhD student or post-doctorate for young PhD researchers, maximum 5 years.
Line of research of the host group offered for the internship:
• Artificial Intelligence generative models (AI).
• AI applications in medical assistance and environment.
Nowadays, the professor Azanu MIROLGN MEQUANENIT, with a Bachelor of Computer Science and a Master of Information Science and Technology from the University of Gondar, Ethiopia. She is conducting a research stage in the research group knowledge Modelling, processing, and management technologies of the University of Murcia from October 2024 to March 2025.
