UMU students present at the IV edition of the Mediterranean Student Summit held from 1st to 3rd October 2025 in the University of Girona

18 nov 2025

The Mediterranean Student Summit, initiative launched by the network of Erasmus students and UMINED, is intended to gather Higher Education students from both sides of the Mediterranean to encourage intercultural dialogue and collaborate in common challenges.

Javier Martagón Mármol (student from the Faculty of Law), and Jaime Hernández Oñate (student from the Faculty of Economics and Business) were our representatives in this recent edition. Exact words of Jaime: During the 4th edition of the Mediterranean Student Summit, taking advantage of the multiple opportunities offered to us by the fact that they were students from diverse countries and continents with different cultures and opinions, we have detailed many recommendations about the way that educational institutions are intrinsic connected with society as a whole, derived from the synergy created as a result of different points of view given by students present at the forum.

Both students, to be able to take part in this event, had to attend 4 online training sessions from the organizers, before the face-to-face session in Girona and then, a final online session for conclusions.

Participation in this event is supported by the International Excellence Campus for Higher Education and the Vice-Rectorate for Students and Employability, thanks to the annual call of grants ‘Acciones Especiales’ destined to students from the University of Murcia. Since the subsistence, possible entries or local transport costs oversee the organization, the CMN gives the scholarship (up to 700 euros) to defray transport and accommodation costs.

UNIMED is an important university network, which gathers more than 179 higher education institutions from 25 Mediterranean countries, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East and Western Balcans. The network promotes academic cooperation among these regions and manage in diverse scientific fields with the goal of promoting research and training in the Euromediterranean field and other near regions, to contribute to scientific, cultural, social and economic cooperation.

Also, the UNIMED network helps in the promotion of international dimension of the universities that comprise it by developing training activities for its academic and administrative staff, making easier the mobility of students, researchers and teachers, encouraging scientific cooperation in specific fields through the creation of thematic sub-networks and organising national and international conferences and seminars, among others.
