State Universities in Murcia to help development of first Saharan university28 oct 2014
The international cooperation agreement signed today in the Chancellor's Office of the University of Murcia between this university, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the University of Tifirati, the leading higher education institution of the Democratic Saharan Arab Republic aims to promote the realization of joint academic activities and projects.
Vice-Chancellor for Coordination and Internationalization of the University of Murcia, Bernardo Cascales, the driving force behind the agreement, revealed during the signing that the agreement envisages the development of studies and research of interest for the parties concerned and the start of educational actions and postgraduate grants for the Saharan university.
The Chancellor of the University of Tifariti, Jatari Hamudi, accompanied by the Minister of Cooperation of the Democratic Saharan Arab Republic, Brahim Mojtar, and the delegate for the Saharan People on the Region of Murcia, Mohamed Labat, expressed his thanks on behalf of his people before referring to the aid the state universities of Murcia can provide in terms of teacher training, infrastructures, student mobility and research.
UPCT Chancellor, José Antonio Franco, recalled that the cooperation agreement is part of the Mare Nostrum Campus of excellence project, which is called, among other things, to be a cross-border campus.
Lastly, José Orihuela, Chancellor of the University of Murcia, underlined the log, fruitful relationship between the Sharan people and the state universities in Murcia and expressed the desire to strengthen the agreement signed.
This act is part of the Saharan Culture Days being held at the University of Murcia, the UPCT and other venues in the Region.
