OBJECTIVES:
Improving water management resources has become of paramount importance for a wide array of international organizations. In the context of the Mediterranean basin, in particular, the challenges faced by different areas struck by water scarcity, supply and management issues are huge.
The Mediterranean research and academic institutions face increasing demands from different social agents to deliver scientific outputs that help us understand specific problems for the efficient management of water resources. This is one of the topics defined in the project Campus Mare Nostrum 37/38.
Campus Mare Nostrum 37/38, sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Education, together with the Euro-Mediterranean Water Institute (IEA) launch the Euro-Mediterranean Academic Forum on Water Sustainability on semiarid climate areas, an academic initiative to discuss, identify and evaluate challenges and interventions in the field of water management and sustainability.
We are planning to hold a first kick-off meeting in the city of Murcia, Spain. A steering group will discuss and, if agreed, draft a declaration which both underscores the need for such an academic forum and sets up the agenda for the forthcoming year 2012.
