CMN power plant to save 1,500 tons of CO2 emissions

The University of Murcia has opened a new large photovoltaic plant located in university parking lots and premises. This power plant is expected to supply the energy to fulfil the needs of approximately 1,146 households.
This project started back in April 2011 and the installation was completed in November by Sol9 and Alter Ernersun.
Antonio Calvo-Flores, UM Vice-Rector for Economy and Infrastructures, remarked that this installation is better understood in the context of the University of Murcia Sustainable Campus initiative where renewable energies and energy-saving policies are being promoted. José Antonio Cobacho, Rector, and Pedro Jiménez Mompeán, Head of the Energy and Mine Industry Unit of the Region of Murcia, attended the event.
The solar panels will save 1,500 tons of CO2 emissions.
Recently, Campus Mare Nostrum presented a memo on Green economy in TETIS 2011, Towards Education and Technological approaches to Implement Sustainability. Campus mare Nostrum discussed the role of Green economy as a better life Indicator and the role and plans of Campus Mare Nostrum in this area.
