GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2018 – Shaping the Mediterranean: From Cooperation to Integration
08 nov 2018On 25 and 26 October 2018 UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union is organizing its General Assembly in partnership with the UfM Secretariat and Anna Lindh Foundation, and under the patronage of Mr. Carlos Moedas, Member of the European Commission, and ISESCO. The General Assembly is hosted by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, celebrating its 150 th anniversary.
The UNIMED General Assembly represents a yearly event, where rectors, presidents and their representatives meet to exchange views and to determine policy for UNIMED, setting the stage for a full and rich year of initiatives, activities and conferences around the Mediterranean. This year’s edition is dedicated to the role that Universities should play in “Shaping the Mediterranean: From Cooperation to Integration”. The proceedings will be opened by Wail Benjelloun (President of UNIMED), Michele Bugliesi (Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice) and Hmaid Ben Aziza (Secretary General of UNIMED) who will stress the growing importance of Universities in contemporary society and the need for a strengthened cooperation across the Mediterranean Sea. Marcello Scalisi (Director of UNIMED) will take stock of the recent achievements of the network to ground the future strategy to attain common objectives.
The event will feature the intervention of internationally renowned intellectuals and representatives of Euro-Mediterranean stakeholder institutions such as: Michel Wieviorka (President of Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme), Johannes Hahn (EU- Commissioner for European Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations), Emanuelle Gardan (Head of Sector of Higher Education and Research at Union for the Mediterranean), Abdelilah Benarafa (Director, Supervisor of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World), and Elisabeth Guigou (President of Anna Lindh Foundation).
The UNIMED General Assembly is also an opportunity for the associates to participate to in-depth workshops and short trainings on topics such as e-Learning and Open Education, Sustainable mobility in the Mediterranean, EU Programs for Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation, Cooperation between Euro-Mediterranean Universities and Asia, and Higher Education in Crisis Situation.
Currently more than 160 participants from 24 countries are registered to attend the event.
