Today, at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), the Campus of Excellence Network General Council at the marine level, CEIMARNET, has met and approved a joint offer of four inter-university masters in marine sciences and technologies. The CEIMARNET Network brings together 14 universities, research centres such as the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Oceanographic Institute, as well as important businesses from within the sector.
One of these masters, Underwater Marine Technology, will be coordinated by the Campus Mare Nostrum, which is made up of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the University of Murcia. Masters like Coastal Zone Management, Fishing Management and Oceanography can boast the participation of teachers and researchers from both universities. The master in Oceanography is the latest to be set up and is pending evaluation from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation in Spain (ANECA) next academic year.
The goal of these specialised masters is to attract “international talent in order to lead innovation and research at sea. One thing in which we are definitely leaders in Europe is the sea”, said Salustiano Mato, President of the CEIMARNET Network and Chancellor of the University of Vigo.
More than 10,000 researchers participate in the CEIMARNET Network, including the nine research teams from the University of Murcia and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena that have created the Oceanographic Research Platform. “It is the greatest concentration of marine research talent in Europe,” said Mato.
The Chancellor of the University of Vigo, Cartagena, Murcia and Las Palmas attended today’s meeting where the next Network working session will be held, as did a vice-Chancellor of the University of Cádiz. The Secretary General for Universities in the Ministry of Education, Juan María Vázquez, Education Minister of the Region of Murcia, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, and the Director General of Universities and Research and Innovation, Luis Javier Lozano, and Celia Martínez were also present.
