Participation of two UMU Students at the Venice International Film Festival 202307 sep 2023
During the 80th edition of the Venice International Film Festival, an international jury, composed of around 25 students from universities of the Euro-Mediterranean region, will award two important prizes made by recognized artists.
The first prize is awarded to the best film from the official selection (competition), and the second prize to the film, also from the official competition, that most effectively and coherently represents cultural diversity.
The award ceremony will take place at the Venice Production Bridge events room, third floor, Hotel Excelsior from 9.30 to 10.30 a.m. on Friday 8 September. A trailer dedicated to UNIMED's activities will be screened for the occasion, with speeches by some students from previous years' juries.
The prize-giving ceremony will be attended by Fabrizio Marrella (pro-rector of international relations at Ca' Foscari University), Alessandra Speciale (head of the Final Cut Venezia project), Intishal Al Tamimi (director of the Elgouna Film Festival), Teresa Cavina (consultant for Giornate degli autori and various international festivals), Paolo De Grandis (creator of the external pavilions of La Biennale di Venezia), Flavio Natalia (director of Ciak magazine), moderated by Antonio Falduto (artistic director of the UNIMED Award).
This year the two prizes will be created by the artists Miresi and 'Bronze brothers' Anastasia Aladysheva - Arsenty Lysenkov, selected by curators Paolo De Grandis and Carlotta Scarpa.
The UNIMED Award resulted from the collaboration between UNIMED - Mediterranean Universities Union, an association of 162 universities from 27 countries on both sides of the Mediterranean and the La Biennale di Venezia. The award was established in memory of Prof. Franco Rizzi, former Secretary General and founder of UNIMED, for his life-long and career-long commitment to improving cooperation between Euro-Mediterranean universities.
From the University of Murcia, the students María Juárez Muñoz y Lucía Antón Raya belonging to the Faculty of Letras and Faculty of Comunicación/ Documentación are our representatives.
UNIMED aims to develop research and university education in the Euro-Mediterranean area in order to contribute to scientific, cultural, social and economic cooperation in the region.
