The renewal of the Seal of Excellence and Quality to the Mare Nostrum International Campus (CMN), of both public universities of the Region of Murcia, has been celebrated in Palacio de San Esteban with a ceremony lead by the President of the Region of Murcia, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.

The ceremony, which has brought together a large representation of Murcia society, has welcomed the Rectors of the University of Murcia (UMU) and the Technical University of Cartagena (UPCT), José Orihuela and José Antonio Franco, respectively.

José Antonio Franco, the Rector of UPCT, has underlined the preservation of the Seal, after an assessment period carried out by an international agency of experts, because CMN “is a project belonging to the Region of Murcia which contributes to a greater excellence and internationalization of the regional university system”.

José Antonio Franco has thanked all involved agents, such as research centres, public administration, international organizations, technological centres, and companies, which have “trusted in both regional public universities so as to lead this process of aggregation”.

In his speech, the Rector of the University of Murcia, José Orihuela, who has been grateful with the Ex-Rector José Antonio Cobacho and the CMN Ex-Coordinator Juan María Vázquez, has noted that this project has been constituted since 2010 in an educational, research and social excellence focused on its three fields of reference: bioeconomy based on agro-food, quality of life and medical and Mediterranean technologies, and naval and maritime technologies.

The Rector Orihuela has pointed out that the assessment agency, in order to renew the Seal of Excellence, has valued the undertaken actions so as to set up some inter-university degrees and masters, to increase the mobility of students, professors, administrative staff and operating personnel, to spread the offer of bilingual studies or to modernise infrastructures; he has stated “issues in which we will keep working in the following years in order to improve life quality and general welfare in the Region of Murcia”.
On the other hand, the President of the Region of Murcia, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, has quoted that CMN is “an educational, scientific, research and cultural reference in the Mediterranean” thanks to the “union of effort, enthusiasm and talent”, as well as an evidence that public universities of the Region of Murcia “represent a prime example of what the society demands”.

Sánchez has told in the ceremony that the agreement with Campus of International Excellence Mare Nostrum, and the University of Murcia and Technical University of Cartagena has just been renewed.
