Women's voices and Shelter, 23 March

Women's voices and Shelter, 23 March

23 Mar 2017 - 23 Mar 2017

Within the framework of the European action week against racism and discrimination, a meeting was held to share and exchange several experiences and welcome refugees.

The certain situations which are developing around migratory movements linked to the shelter and asylum are especially suffered by women. This makes the collective attention displacement to these facts to a third or fourth place, the postponment of its treatment and solution, when it comes down to it,  the silence of complicity, are especially significant concerning women. Thus, increasing exponentially their situation of vulnerability and discrimination.

Furthermore, it is necessary to stop looking at women from a passive perspective, as mere recipients of the agreements and shelter and asylum consequences.

Women should participate in the analysis and decision-making processes on these situations, both in the recipient countries of these kind of migrations and in the countries of origin, as they claim and practice different voices.

The voices of women must be listened to, because without them, no solution will be true, all-encompassing, effective and lasting. In this activity we seek to contribute to having the rightful place that befits them.
