The agreement with the Mauritanian University Nouakchott Al Aasriya has been approved by the governing board of the University of Murcia

On 25th February, the University of Murcia (UMU) received the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania formed by His Excellency Dr. Sidi Ould Salem, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Information and Communication Technologies and Mauritanian Government Spokesman; His Excellency Mr. Boubcar Kane, Ambassador of Mauritania in Spain; Mr. Cheikh Saad Bouh Camara, President of the Nouakchott Al Aasriya University and Mr. Alassane Dieng, First Counsellor at the Embassy of Mauritania in Spain.

The delegation was received by Mr. José Luján, Rector of the University of Murcia together with the Vice-Rector for Research and Internationalisation, Ms. Senena Corbalán, and the Chief of the International Relations Area, Mr. Matías Balibrea at the Rectorate headquarters, dealing with mutual interests of collaborating. Among those, they highlighted the coming agreement, the promotion of joint research, the students and faculty mobility, just as the diffusion of the Spanish as a foreign language supported by the possible creation of a Cervantes Institute in the aforesaid country.

Among the purposes of the Vice-Rectorate, you could find the opening and expansion of the internationalisation processes of the University of Murcia to different geographical areas where activity is, nowadays, minimal, or even non-existent, as the case of Mauritania. Moreover, cooperation with North African countries is a priority for our institution in the framework of Campus Mare Nostrum (CMN), where the students have the possibility to access through CMN scholarships to summer courses of Internacional del Mar University and CMN international doctorate conferences organised by the International Doctoral School of the UMU (EIDUM) and the UPCT (EINDOC).

On 26th March 2021, the aforesaid agreement was approved by the governing board. The Vice-Rectorate for Research and Internationalisation and the Campus Mare Nostrum (CMN) are pleased to have this new institution among its partners. The University of Murcia and CMN will be present at the Feria Virtual Estudiar en España - África Subsahariana, in English, «I Virtual Fair Study in Spain Sub-Saharan Africa» (Benin, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria and Senegal) of SEPIE («Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education»), which will take place on 5 and 6 May 2021.
