With the objective of promoting research in the fields of psycho-social intervention, art and art therapy, the University of Murcia and the Town-Council of Archena are pleased to organise the International Congress on Psycho-social Intervention, Community Art and Art Therapy, From Creativity to Social Bonds, on the 28, 29 and 30 November and the 1 December.

This Congress is a proposal to enhance the different synergies and incentives that merge into community development.

The main feature of the development of treatment and social intervention is the fact that it connects the individual dynamics with the social ones, with the objective of uprising people’s skills and competences while pursuing integration and social welfare. The social progress, the improvement of quality of life and of coexistence and community life can only be achieved with an active disposition to the community participation and with the respect and recognition of individual aspects in the process of social development.   Only full access to social resources and to culture will make this objective feasible, since only interrelations and social experiencies allow individuals to shape their own particular personality in the social sphere.

From the standpoint of “the social” as cultural experience and viceversa, our proposal is to make of this congress a space to bring together, to differentiate and to link with each other different approaches to initiatives and experiences aiming at the growth of the individual and the social aspects of life.

Art generates thought and dynamism, at the individual as well as at the community level. It makes the emergence of the particular things possible and makes the relationships between the past and the future evident. Art underlines the experiences and contradictions of the community life. This is the reason why we will find in Social Art an efficient tool to meet the demands of social groups as well as to manage proposals and works that promote the community and the life together.

From Art-Therapy we’ll try to enforce each individual’s particular features in group contexts, so that we can keep on building up our society in a positive way. The individual, healthy or ill, experiences his/her creative production as an everlasting print of his/her inner world that is trasnfered to the social sphere and is methaphorically revealed too. The transfer of meaning to form allows him/her to generate a space of new reality, social or individual, that is built with his/her own objectified thoughts and emotions. The experience of creation, in itself, is healing and therapeutic.

Professionals who work in the fields of mental health, social services and education, beyong the methodological line and the severity of the problems we treat, have the overall objective of allowing individuals to develop their personal potentialities and to reach a more satisfactory evolution of their capacities. In this sense, any individual’s cure, the subjective modification, the incorporation of positive communication abilities etc..must take place with a satisfactory development of his/her projection and symbolisation skills.

We can conclude that Social and Artistic Intervention and Art Therapy are three ways, spinning on the same axis, to efficiently contribute to the development of the individual and the social aspects of life.

Sociología histórica is a new scientific journal that tries to recover the historical dimension for sociological studies and understands sociology as a science that looks after processes of social change first and foremost, that is to say, has a fundamental temporal dimension. Furthermore, Sociología histórica upholds theoretical, methodological and narrative pluralism in social scientific research.

From the Editorial Board of Sociología histórica (SH), we call for articles for our first monograph number that will be devoted to analyze the processes of social change that are taking place in Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya, Syria and other countries of the region, in other words, what is being called “the Arab Spring” or “the Arab Awakening” from January 2011 on.

The event, taking place in Bari, Italy, from 31^st  January to 4^th February 2012, was organised by the local government of the Region of Puglia (Italy) in collaboration with the Italian Federation of Natural Parks and Reserves and brought together managers, enterprises, associations, scientific institutions and local and national authorities from different countries in order to discuss on the preservation of natural reserves, environment and sutainable development in the Mediterranean basin. Mobility for the training of students, faculty and staff is a surge in activity of the UM. The number of destinations is on the up and new activities are set to broaden our offer. It is important to know best other education systems in order to find similarities likely to bring in the exchange of training personnel to give validity to this mobility.

Turkey is an emerging country for the mobility of UM with a small number of specific agreements in this area. Having the opportunity to learn first hand is a great opportunity to expand our international horizons.

Dr. Nafi Yalcin  graduated from İstanbul, Boğaziçi University,Department of English Language and Literature in 1986 and received his M.A. degree from the same university on Linguistics in 1989. He got his PH.D. degree from Ankara, Hacettepe University on Linguistics in 2002.

After serving for 20 years in various high schools and academies in the Turkish Army as a teacher of English, he worked in İstanbul, Maltepe University, English Language Teaching Department as an assistant professor between 2006-2009, and now he has been lecturing at Kayseri-Melikşah University, the Department of English Language and Literature since 2009.

He has published a number of articles, papers and books about theoretical linguistics, language planning and various subjects of Turkish linguistics.

The University of Murcia, a member of EMUNI network, launched the first Euro-Mediterranean Initiative for Academic and research cooperation on water sustainability in semiarid climate areas.

The University of Murcia has opened a new large photovoltaic plant located in university parking lots and premises. This power plant is expected to supply the energy to fulfil the needs of approximately 1,146 households.

This project started back in April 2011 and the installation was completed in November by Sol9 and Alter Ernersun.

Antonio Calvo-Flores, UM Vice-Rector for Economy and Infrastructures, remarked that this installation is better understood in the context of the University of Murcia Sustainable Campus initiative where renewable energies and energy-saving policies are being promoted. José Antonio Cobacho, Rector, and Pedro Jiménez Mompeán, Head of the Energy and Mine Industry Unit of the Region of Murcia, attended the event.

The solar panels will save 1,500 tons of CO2 emissions.

Recently, Campus Mare Nostrum presented a memo on Green economy in TETIS 2011, Towards Education and Technological approaches to Implement Sustainability. Campus mare Nostrum discussed the role of Green economy as a better life Indicator and the role and plans of Campus Mare Nostrum in this area.

The Commission of the U-IMPACT Programme has published the following two lists:

OBJECTIVES:

Improving water management resources has become of paramount importance for a wide array of international organizations. In the context of the Mediterranean basin, in particular, the challenges faced by different areas struck by water scarcity, supply and management issues are huge.

The Mediterranean research and academic institutions face increasing demands from different social agents to deliver scientific outputs that help us understand specific problems for the efficient management of water resources. This is one of the topics defined in the project Campus Mare Nostrum 37/38.

Campus Mare Nostrum 37/38, sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Education, together with the Euro-Mediterranean Water Institute (IEA) launch the Euro-Mediterranean Academic Forum on Water Sustainability on semiarid climate areas, an academic initiative to discuss, identify and evaluate challenges and interventions in the field of water management and sustainability.

During this meeting. the universities and the two institutions will discuss collaboration initiatives to launch student, staff and researchers' mobility programs. The set-up of joint Master's programs will also be discussed.

Campus Mare Nostrum and the University of Haifa signed an collaboration agreement last July.

The project objectives will be achieved by upgrading the TCs human resources firstly in some of the technological and industrial common fields of interest for both Mediterranean shores –Mediterranean naval&maritime technology, the agro-food sector and the field of Economics and busines (environmental studies as a transversal issue)- and secondly in the field of Political and Social sciences. The promotion of joint degrees wll be accomplished by a moblity scheme which favours the recongition of oversea studies, while allowing the complete training of students at postgraduate level in the fields which their home universities do not offer nowadays.

The European universities which will take part in EU Mare Nostrum are the Univesidad de Murcia, Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, Universidad de Minho (Portugal), Universidad Técnica de Riga (Letonia), Instituto Sciences Po de Lyon, Instituto Internación de Comercio y Desarrollo (Francia), Universidad de Vilnius (Lituania), Universidad Tecnológica de Lublin (Polonia), Universidad de Messina (Italia).

In the North of Africa we find the University Moulay Ismaïl, University Mohamed I, University Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah (Marruecos), University Abdelhamid Ibn Badis de Mostaganem, University Mouloud Mammeri de Tizi-Ouzou, University of Orán (Argelia), Universidad Manouba, University of Gabés and the University of Tunisia.

Some other partners are CEPAIM, CARM, Fundación de Desarrollo Sostenible, Grupo Compostela de Universidades, Universidad de Alicante, Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Euromed Permanent University Forum, Casa Mediterráneo, EMUNI, Universidad Internacional de Chipre, Homo-Faber, AMICIS and the Agencia de Desarrollo Social.

This action will go on for four years and has been awarded 3,199,450 EUR.

Profesor Vázquez will be accompanied by the Vice-rector of International Relations and Campus of Excellence UPCT, Ramón Ruiz, and the Coordinator of the CMN at the University of Murcia, Pascual Pérez-Paredes.

This chair –one of two awarded to Spanish universities– will fundamentally at the main purpose stimulate research, thought and social debate into questions of great importance in the actual process of economical, political, cultural and social unification of Europe.

At the same time, it will foster and consolidate the introduction of European issues into teaching establish the importance of internationalization and increased cross-border collaborations in Europe. For this purpose the Jean Monnet Chair planned the organization of several seminars and lectures in which scientists from different European universities are going to participate. Among the topics, we can highlight such as Cultures in Europe, borders transcendence, Mobility and Migration etc.. In addition to these activities, the project staff is going to carry out teaching and public lectures at
the University of Murcia and the other collaborating institutions like the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and Basel (Switzerland). In this way, the
activities want to be a point of contact between the researchers of the different institutions involved. At the same time, all this work will have tangible results the editions of books (like those already launched Europe. Images and lifestyles), Web pages (like www.lifemode.eu), or the development of teaching materials for different stages of the education system (for example de textbook Are We Europeans? Europeans Cultures and images of Europe).

Through all these activities, the Jean Monnet Chair aims to provide elements of the internationalization and Europeanization to the University of Murcia and the Murcian Society.

The EAIE Exhibition was held alongside the 23rd Annual Conference of the  European Association for International Education (EAIE) from 14–16 September 2011 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The exhibition is described by the organizers as a unique opportunity to present university programmes and services to more than 4000 higher education professionals from all over the world.

Campus Mare Nostrum' was at this important event and disseminated the activities of the Universities of Murcia and Cartagena. In particular, CMN showcased some of the Degrees and Master and Doctoral programmes that can be of potential interest to international students, including joint actions with EMUNI, the Euro-Mediterranean University.

Gaspar Ros (Vice-rector for International Affairs, U. Murcia), Beatriz Marín (Head of International Relations Office, U.  Cartagena), Matías Balibrea (Head of International Relations Office, U. Murcia),  and Antonia Saavedra (International Relations Office, U. Murcia) attended the event.

The Minister of Education of the Government of Spain, Ángel Gabilondo, paid a visit July 25  to the Science Summer Campus organized by the International Campus of Excellence 'Mare Nostrum 37/38', the University of Murcia and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena. This was an excellent opportunity to disseminate the actions between EMUNI and CAMPUS MARE NOSTRUM.

Jose Antonio Franco Leemhuis, Research Vice-Chancellor of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena and Pascual Pérez-Paredes, Campus Mare Nostrum Coordinator for the Universidad de Murcia attended this event.

LIAISE was established as part of the European Commission’s FP7 work programme (2009) as a Network of Excellence (NoE) in order to improve the application of Impact Assessments (IA) by both the research and the policy making communities. Its focus is on policy development relating to sustainable development strategies.
